President's Golf Day - Belton Woods
2nd May 2025

A report by the Golf Organizator

Friday 2nd May bought together 18 golfing Mals for this year’s Presidents Golf Day.

Belton Woods, in sunny Lincolnshire was the venue, being the home of our current President Rob Epton (a.k.a 300).

Mals Stewart and Jim Ward made an early appearance although weren’t playing golf, and the day was started with coffee and bacon baps (and a few cheeky bevvies) which had different effects on different warriors! All participants enjoyed the glorious sunshine, The Woodland course and for some, the partaking of another drink as they passed the clubhouse on their way to the tenth hole.

Nearest the pins were won by Oli Collins and Stuart Viggers

The ‘I really did try’ award went to Ollie Gray despite Jimmy having trained him over the years.

3rd place belonged to Shaun our beloved Treasurer, with new boy and son of Smithy a.k.a William taking the runners up spot. Let’s hope we see him on the island very soon.

Star of the show this year and winner of the Robinson Receptacle was Keith Williams (Edwards) with an excellent 40 points despite him rushing to the course from the court at Wrexham where he narrowly got off (I’m sure for a drink he will explain in Tregs).

A random card draw took place and a melee of golf balls and ball marker prizes were handed out.

Drinks and dinner followed, where we were joined by a trio of Past Presidents, Jimmy Gray, Alan Guest and Simon Greiner.

Although the environment at dinner was rather noisy (not from the Mals but all the other hotel guests crammed into the small dining area / bar) everyone enjoyed themselves.

More alcohol was consumed and stories swapped, before we all said goodnight and promised to meet again on the islands.
